In early 2004, the Law School of Shantou University established its teaching program in arbitration, mediation and negotiation. And in late 2004, the Law School established the Cheung Kong Centre for Negotiation and Dispute Resolution (CKND).
The mission of CKND is to promote understanding and use of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and negotiation skills and to bring together professionals, business people, scholars and the public and private sector participants to exchange views and to create discourse in these areas.
CKND is committed to the following goals:
- To increase public awareness of effective negotiation skills and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms such as arbitration and mediation;
- To develop the theory of negotiation and dispute resolution through education programs and training;
- To increase the effective practice of negotiation and dispute resolution mechanisms through effective training;
- To encourage multi-disciplinary collaborative research in negotiation and dispute resolution across different industries, cultures and communities.
